About the project

The three year project aims to bring together organisations that are working with people with functional literacy problems in four European countries: Estonia, Italy, Turkey and UK.

It will support two specific aims:

  1. to exchange good practice amongst professional practitioners
  2. to pilot an innovative way of delivering functional literacy support to adults.

This latter aim will be achieved by encouraging adult learners to research local, regional or national legends and to present information on their findings at transnational meetings of the partnership (which will include learners from partner countries).

In this way, learners will develop oral, aural and written skills, presentation skills and the accompanying growth in self esteem and confidence.

The involvement of learners and teachers from each partner organisation at each transnational meeting will help to build an awareness and understanding of European culture, fellowship and citizenship.

Partners will use ICT and the internet to promote both the concept of the project and also its outcomes. This will include examples of learners’ work as well as reports on good practice developed by the project.

Meetings have been held in Lancaster (UK), Porto Potenza Picena (Italy), Tallin (Estonia) and Malatya (Turkey).
